The Reef Resort Welcomes Second Passport2Success Group
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (February 25, 2011) - The Reef Resort in East End, welcomed a group of 20 young Caymanians to the resort on Friday to learn about job opportunities in one of Cayman's largest industry - tourism. The young Caymanians were latest group participating in the government's Passport2Success program, a programme organized by the Ministry of Education, Training and Development.
The Passport2Success programme is a full time commitment for the youngsters. Participating 5 days a week from 8.30am to 4pm, based at the International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI) the programme lasts for 12 weeks, with 2 weeks being hands on experience in a work placement.
TheReef welcomed 20 recent school graduates on Friday February 25th to learn more about job options available within the tourism industry. The students listened to Reef employees from many different backgrounds - from wedding planners to chefs, timeshare sales to guest services agents. After the presentation, the group was given hands on experience when they entered theReef's commercial kitchen to assist the Head Chef with lunch preparations. Working together as a team, the group prepared pizza from scratch with the guidance of theReef's Head Chef, Robert Phillips.
After lunch the group was taken on a guided tour of theReef, experiencing behind the scenes workings of a busy Cayman Islands resort. The youngsters toured the rooms and amenities including the gym, games room, pools and spa. A spokesperson for the group expressed their sincere thanks to theReef for affording them the opportunity to learn more about the job opportunities available in tourism and for the hospitality of theReef staff.
Speaking on the success of today's event, Cindy Abrahams, Human Resource Director said "TheReef resort is thrilled to have participated in the passport2success programme for a second time. We are pleased to see the enthusiasm expressed by the participants and we are always happy to see young Caymanians express an interest in the tourism industry. We look forward to welcoming some of the participants as interns at theReef over the next year."
